How To Communicate With Your MateCan you improve your communication with your mate? Author Nancy Van Pelt believes you can. "Although communication is a complex process," she writes, "it isn't complicated."How to Communicate With Your Mate explains what communication is and how a couple can achieve more fulfillment in marriage through better communication.
"If it weren't for this book, we'd be
divorced!" A woman with high blood pressure picked up a copy of HOW TO
COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MATE at her internist's office. She took it home and
read it. That night she told her husband that she wanted him to read it.
He said he would read it but only if he had his own copy. She marks and
write in margins of book and he didn't want to read her notes. This couple
had many problems -- so many they were ready to split up. They had
previously separated.
She went back to her doctor's office and
got another copy for her husband. He took it to work the next day and read
and made notes in his copy. That night they exchanged books and read each
other's comments. Each had written down things they knew they were doing
wrong and where improvement was needed. They discuss what what the other
had written. Their discovery-- each had written similar comments! And they
realized they had something special to save!
They decided there would be no more
fighting once the sun went down each evening since they often went to bed
with angry, hurt feelings. She would sleep on the couch and he in the
bedroom. Both were weary of the old ways. They decided that was to end.
Now everything had to be settled before they went to bed.
However their 15 year old son would come
in late yelling and screaming and presented a big problem for them. They
told him they would no longer allow that behavior after sun down. He
eventually learned to come in before sundown and either air his gripes or be
quiet. Once Mom and Dad got their marriage together, it helped their son
immensely.
Whenever the wife gets discouraged,
she pulls out this meaningful book and rereads it. This couple states
unequivocally, "If it weren't for HOW TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR MATE" we'd be
divorced today! A happy ending to a new
beginning.
A happy Denver couple
